This striking red-brick and marble building is a beautiful example of north Indian Islamic architecture. Built in 1907 and officially opened by the Sultan of Selangor on December 23, 1909, it is the oldest mosque in Kuala Lumpur. It is located at the confluence of the Gombak and Klang rivers where miners in search of tin first landed in Kuala Lumpur.
This Mogul-inspired mosque was designed by British engineer A.B. Hubback, who had previously served in India. It has three domes surmounting the prayer hall with the 21.3m high central dome dominating the skyline. At the corners are two red and white striped minarets 26.8m high. |
