SEMENGGOH ORANG UTAN SANCTUARY

About half an hour drive away from Kuching lies Semenggoh, a 10 square kilometer sanctuary to some of Sarawak's totally protected wildlife especially the Orang Utan. It is easily accessible by road followed by a brief hike through the Dipterocarp forest. Upon arrival take the plank walk to the feeding site to catch a glimpse of these unique "Wild Men of Borneo". While they are being fed the tour guide will describe to you their humane behavior, emotion and characteristics attributing to their name the "Orang Utan" which means "Men of the Forest".

On your return to Kuching town, drop by the Pitcher Plant and Wild Orchid Park and discover the treasures of the Borneo Jungle. Most of the collection of orchids are found in nearly every habitat in Borneo, from the coastal mangrove swamps to the summit area of Kalimantan Highlands. The Pitcher Plants of the genus Nepenthes are unique. Today nearly 90 species are recognized, ranging west to Madagascar, east to New Guinea and north to India. In Sarawak Nepenthes reach their pinnacle of diversity with 23 described species of which six are endemic to the state!
